LETTER-CARRIERS

SOCIAL GATHERING.

Members of the Letter Carriers' Social Clnb held their annual reunion at Godber's, Courtenay-place, last night. The fnnotion was of the pleasantest description, and there was a full attendance of members and visitors. .Mr J. Johnson, president of the Letter Carriers' Associa^ tion, was in the chair, with Mr*-' J. B. Lindsay; chairman of the club, in the vice^chair. Throughout the proceedings the point was made that- the Social Club was an integral factor in the life of the letter-carriers as a body—conserving their interests in the Department and generally looking after .the welfare of the men who are engaged in the arduous duty of distributing the mails among the population of the Empire City. One speaker remarked: "You bring the public, grief and joy; you carry our.love letters and deliver pur bills; in your hands are the destinies—or at least the temporary fortunes of thousands.. If you fail in you duty the end has come." Among those who took part in the evening's entertainment were the chairman, and Messrs. H. F. Wood, Furness, W. Crawford, Fateni, HUliken, Ray Reynolds, L. Smith, Jupp, Evans, and Kerr. Tha musical programme was arranged by Mr. G. Blackie, and Mr. J. Chandler capably fulfilled the duties of secretary.
