WAR RELIEF

MEETING OF LOCAL EXECUTIVE,

The executive of the War Belief Association met yesterday afternoon, when Mr. J. Lewis presided. Mr. Clutha N. Mackenzie, editor of chronicles of the N.Z.E.F. (London) wrote thanking the association lor its report in regard to the work of the organisation* the letter concluding: —"Your report makes us realise that our people at home are not going to see any of our soldiers or their dependent^ in trouble, as long as it can be helped." The Finance Committee reported that the total funds of the association on 31st March were £78,556 10s 9d, the list of investments amounting to £78,000. It was decided to ask the trustees to transfer the sum of £1000 to the Imprest Account for April. The report was adopted. It was reported that since the last meeting the following had been elected life members of the executive: —Messrs. C. R. Smith, R. M.. Simpson, Robt. G. V. Parker, ,W. M. Hannay, Gep. Pirie, ,A. J. George, W. R- Doughty, P. K. KelKng, David 'Anderson, L. R: Partridge, W. J. Bridson, W. Quin, J. Rennie, Archbishop O'Shea, J. Salmond, W. Callender, W- Brown, C. Smith, T,. P. Mills, J. Duncan, H. N. Liardet, Jas. Murphy, and L. Blundell.. . The Relief Committee reported _ that since 'the last meeting of the executive it had dealt with 847 applications for relief. The_, report further stated that the Amelioration Committee of the Australia Day Fund had agreed to reciprocate with the War Relief Association in the matter of assisting soldiers; or their dependents, and would reimburse the association for assistance granted to New South Wales applicants. . Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, Mayor of Petone, was appointed an advisory member of the Relief Committee.
