POTATOES FIRM, VEGETABLES
DEAR.
The New Zealand Fanners' Co-opera-tive Distributing Company reports that! the potato market is firm at recent rates and a large amount of business is being done with Southern merchants. There is no change in wheat values. There is an improved demand, and prices remain firm. Fair business is being done in oats at recent quotations. J?ollard is still very scarce and firm in price. Bran is offering freely. Eggs are extremely scarce, and ehowv a further marked advance in price, the wholesale price having risen 6d per dozen in the week. Poultry is in good demand. There i* excellent enquiry for dressed pork, and prices have improved.
Supplies of vegetables have generally not been equal to the demand, and prices remain high. Choice green peas are selling readily, and prices have declined slightly. Cabbages and cauliflowers are in short snpply and prices high. French beans are not so plentiful, and prices have improved. Lettuce is in fair supply, and meets good demand. Swedes are firm at recent rates. Pumpkins and marrows are in good supply and meet fair demand. Carrots and parsnips are selling well. There is. good' enquiry for beetroot, spring onions, leeks, and celery. Dessert and cooking apples are coming to hand in fair quantities and realise satisfactory prices. Tomatoes are: in better supply, and prices are slightly lower. Choice dessert and cooking, pears are in good demand at recent rates. Grape 3 ' are selling well. Quinces are in fair demand, and choice Hues are bringing satisfactory prices.
