LARGE GATHERING OF FARMERS.

An influential gathering of fanners from ."all parts'.of ' Taranaki "was held on Saturday to'discuss'ways and means ,to improve the position of the dairying industry, which is being penalised by the operation of the Military Service Act. Addresses were • given -by Messrs. Wilkinson and Okey, M.P.'s. 'The following resblutioris'we're carried : That the Government be' asked to at once provide for the appointment of a practical dairy fanner on the Military Appeal Board operating in the dairying districts; that in the opinion of this meeting the time has arrived when the producers of the Dominion should be so organised' as to assure the proptr safeguarding of the producers' interests at all -times; -that in-the opinion of this meeting the farming interests should be re- ■ presented," ton' '.the ' .'lndustrial Efficiency Board by-practical men, and the Government should be asked to increase the personnel of the board to include at least one practical dairy farmer, and executive powers given to the board to give practical effect to the objects of the resolutions of this meeting; that a committee consisting of the chairmen or representatives of factories iii the: district be formed; with' power to add to their number and power to appoint an executive, to watch over and present appeals to the Military Service Board, which is respectfully asked to confer on matters particularly applying to the dairying industry, it being distinctly understood that the work, of the committee is to assist the Government and' the military authorities and organise - and utilise the manhood and . womanhood resources of the Dominion for the prosecution of the war and the production of necessary commodities only.
