PASSPORTS TO WOMEN
STATEMENT BY HON. G. W.
RUSSELL.

The Hon. G. W. Russell (Minister for Internal Affairs) stated to-.day that. the' question had arisen in . connection/with the instructions received from tha Imperial authorities in; regard to the restriction of the . issue of passports, to women who purpose travelling' through the submarine danger zone whether this embargo applies to vessels leaving New Zealand, for' South Africa, Panama, the United States,, or. Canada. The Minister hopes to be able to make a definite announcement on the subject shortly to the effect that a, limited number of passports for women may be issued,, each application to receive special consideration. In lio case, however, will permits be issued to women to leave New Zealand if. their . final destination can only be reached by traversing the danger zone.
