WANGANUI, 23rd February

On the first day of the Wanganui Trotting Meeting the toalisator handled £12,025, as against £10,385 last year. Remaining results: —

Wanganui Cup Handicap, of 200 soys; two miles.—l Peony, Msec (A. Pringle), 1; 2 Miss Havoc, 14sec, 2; 4 Parole Bells, 12sec, 3. Also started: 3 Celtic 4sec, .-8 Stone Belden 4sec, 6 Shanghai 6sec, 7 Albert Wallace foec, 5 Tattles Msec. Peony led from Miss Havoc down the back stretch, and, trotting Well within herself all through, won easing up by six lengths.. Parole Bells was eight lengths away, and further back were Tattles, Albert. Wallace, and Celtic. Time, 4min 53 2-ssec.

Kirkwood Handicap, of 100 soys; one mile and a-half.-r-l .Sol, Bsec (A. Pringle), L; 3,Floval, 12sec, 2; 2 Rio Grande, scr, 3. Also started.:. 4 Red Morn 6sec, 2 Ardroth 12sec. Won with ease by ten lengths from Floval, with Rio Grande two lengths back and Red Morn next. Time, 3min 55 l-ssec.

• Gonville-Castlecliff Handicap, of ■90 soys; two miles.—s Kate Zolock; 20sec (J.-Sharpe), 1; 1 Birdwood, 24sec, 1; 3 Whixall, 24sec, 3. Also started: 8 Calmly; lOsec, 2,.Gallipoli 205ec,.4 Tim Wilkin 20sec, 9 Ringleader 24sep, 6 Wild Daisy 24sec, ,10' Xavier; 25sec; 11 Gold Pin 25sec'; 7 Mawh'iti 25sec. Birdwood overhauled Kate Zolock, and led into the straight,' where, the mare came again and beat him by a length. Whixall was five lengths away, with Tim Wilkin and Wild Daisy next. Time, smin 1 l-ssec.

President's Handicap, of 100 soys; two miles.—3 Fernleigh, 16sec (Alborn), and 4 Gold Boy, 16sec (T. Roe), dead heat, 1; 1 Monsoon, 13sec, 3. Also started; 6 Rio Grande lOsec, 5 Cousin Jenny 12sec, 2 Amberite 16sec. Fernleigh trotted steadily in the lead to the straight, where Gold Boy came fast, and the pair passed the post locked together, the judge declaring the race a dead heat. Monsoon was close up, and Amberite was fourth. Time, smin 9 2-Ssec.

Dash Handicap, of 90 soys; one mile and a-quarter.—2 General Advance, 6sec (B. Shadbolt), 1; 6 Lucy Wallace, 6sec, 2; 4 Comely, lOsec, 3. Also started: 8 Rexcordium ssec, 1 Good Child 7sec, 5 Mahinga Bsec, 3 Devon Bsec, 7 The Weaver lOsec, 9 Bellfotmder lOsec. Won easily by three lengths from Lucy Wallace, who came fast in the straight. Time, 3mm 3sec.
