THE MURIEL CASE
The Marine Department has telegraphed instructions to the Collector of Customs at Auck land to prosecute the owner and th" i-'nter of the trawler Muriel -irhicb was seized oa Friday morning, on a charge of trawling wiilim the prohibited area in IJauraki Gulf. The maximum penalty for a breach of the reguHtious is a fine of £20 and the forfeiture of the vessel, but it rests with the Minister for Marine how the seized vessel is to be disposed of. The practice is to permit the owner to redeem the vessel at a price considered commensurate with the offence. The Muriel is owned by Stanford, Ltd.
