MUNICIPAL HISTORY.

THE FIRST COUNCIL.

Masterton was formed into a borough in 1873, and the first meeting of the council was held on Monday, 13th August, of' that year. The initial poll i created considerable interest, and no fewer than eighteen candidates sought to fill tho nine seats' at the council table.
