i A humorous little interlude at the expense of the Court orderly enlivened proceedings somewhat in the Magistrate's . CoUrt yesterday. It was during the hearing of the', charges against a local jewellery .importer, and the orderly was instructed to call a certai- witness, who happened to be a" Jew. Carrying a ponderous volume under his arm, the witness advanced to- the witness .box, placed his hat on his head, as is; the Jewish custom, and handed the book to the constable. The latter returned the book to the witness, and proceeded to go through the usual formula of taking the oath. The little ceremony had scarcely concluded when counsel ■ for the defence drew the attention of the Court to the fact that the witness was being sworn on a dictionary. "No, this is his book," auswnred the orderly, who, on at length realising his mistake, wtvs compelled to join in the general laughter. 5 Needless to say, the witness had to be re-sworn. Mr. C. W. Price, auctioneer, will toll furniture *t 15, Hamilton-road, Hataitai, lat 1.34, ja.pi. tomorrow. . •
