ENQUIRY REGARDING THB BURTON BLOCK.
Work was continued on all the vessels in port. to-day, including the Kittawa, on which trouble' occurred owing to the use of the Burton block." This block, which has been the cause of a considerable amount of dissatisfaction, was the subject of an expert enquiry yesterday. Captain Atwood was by, mutual'agreement,' appointed' arbitrator. The shipowners were represented by Captain R. J. Reeves, of the staff of G. H. Scales, Ltd., and Mr,, W. G. Bennett, manager of the Waterside Labour Employment Association, was present on behalf of the shipowners. Messrs. L. Glover and George Smith represented the waterside workers, .Evidence was. v heard from various witnesses concerning the value of the Burton block, and the enquiry then concluded. The decision of the .Disputes Committee should be to hand shortly.
A meeting of the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union will be held at, 7.30 o'clock this evening to discuss the proposed Government control of the wharves, , and . regulations regarding waterside work.
