C. S. GRAHAM AND CO.

Importers, Masterton

No review of Masterton commercially would be complete without a reference to the business of Messra. C. S. Graham and Co., generaj merchants and importers. The nucleus of this well-known house was formed by the principal of the firm and his two sons in, 1884, and a comparison between its jjristine insignificance and. its' present development and importance affords one of the best examples, of ..fttesterton's progressiveness that could be cited. Thoir fine premises in Queen street have become leading centres of trade, and provide an objectlesson in not only the results of the proprietors' skilful organisation and business ability, but in the distinct progress the''town and district itself has made ;'within the time mentioned. The premises have an extensive frontage to the, main thoroughfare of the town, and ia a never-failing source of attraction to the passer-by. The interior of tho building is'still more impressive, and the . stocks held indicate the wide field over which the firm's operations extend. The capacious section devoted to general hardware is particularly noteworthy. Here are to be seen tools and domestic ■utensils, builders' materials, oilmen's goods, dairy utensils, separators, crockery, glassware, and- a-multitude of articles -that- is' beyond the ordinary layman's descriptive.powers. The miUinery, and showrooms contain a profusion of feminine wear, and are a popular resort for thoso in search .of', the best- that moneyjean, buy,, while, the boot and shoe department is stocked with a good selection of all popular brands; Graham's being noted for good boots, and shoes at- bedrock.-.prices^ The drapery, and clothing departments afford some attention to the requirements of the men of the district, and heavy stocks of the best brands of clothing, underwear, ties, shirts, etc., are to be seen here. The grocery and general goods section is a ,real up-to-dato onej all lines stocked 'are from the best markets, and Mr. Graham and his assistants, numbering something like twenty, give the best attention to the smallest details.
