(BY TBtEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
' AUCKLAND, Sth February. The Royal Commission for dealing with the allegations in respect to the condition of the railway rolling stock was opened at Auckland to-day.
Counsel, for the Railway Department produced extracts from reports by the General Manager and the Chief Mechanical Engineer. The whole of the officers stated in the most emphatic manner that the rolling stock had been maintained in a high state of efficiency. They knew of no instance where vehicles had been placed on trains when unsafe to run. Evidence is now being taken. '
