ENTERTAINED BY WOMEN'S

SOCIETIES.

(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, 31st January.

The National Union of Women's Societies entertained Air. W. F. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward., The speakers included Mrs. Fawcett and Lady Prances Balfour. who eulogised the work of the New Zealand women during the war, and particularly the movement for .the preservation of infant life in New Zealand. They led the world, the death-rate in. England being 111 per 1000, in Germany 140, and in New Zealand 51.

Sir Joseph Ward said 'that the movement in New Zealand was initiated 'by the women of Dunedin under Dr Truby King's guidance. The Plunket nurses had done valuable work. The women of Britain had done such excellent work in freeing men for the firing line that it would be impossible to resist the extension of the franchise to them after the war.

Mr. Massey urged the women to support the war loan by generous subscriptions..
