AN ASSAULT

Two brothers, John Henry Sergent and Arthur Harold Sergent, were proceeded against at the Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., on a charge of having assaulted a Greek named Pamiy Lurajud, who bore signs of an encounter of some sort. The affair arose out of a fracas at a fish establishment in Stout-street yesterday afternoon. Arthur Sergent admitted having struck the Greek, but denied being the aggressor, stating that the latter had struck him first with a 21-lb hapuku. Having heard the evidence,. his Worship fined Arthur Sergent 20s, and his brother 10s.
