PETROGRAD, 19th December. -me JMimamans have definitely escaped the German pincers, and have fallen back upon the Trotus-Sereth line, shortening their front to abont two hnndred miles. _ The line commences at Dofbuna (? Fokshani) and follows the Sereth and Uanube^to the sea.. The Rumanian army is now reorganising and refitting in Bessarabia, behind the Russians, who are temporarily holding the line across Rumania to the sea. British and trench experts state that the Russians are now holding a line from the River Buzeu to Sarat and north of Hirsova to Taramanchio. The Russo-Rumanians are fortifying their line south of the Sereth. / It is believed that Hindenburg has designs on Bessarabia. It is pointed out that between Galatz and Odessa the winter is comparatively temperate. [The River Sereth in Rumania rises in Bukowina by two branches, the Great and Little Sereth, which rise in the ,Carpathians. They both flow at first north, but gradually turn round and unite about fifteen miles from the frontisr of Rumania.
