HUTT ASSAULT CASE

'The case of the' Police v. Wbyte for alleged assault on R. C. Dick, Hutt Count}' ranger, was concluded at the Lower Hutt Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon.

The only additional evidence called by the defence was that of Thos. Rusby, who occupies the house where Whyte spent the evening before the alleged assault took place, and to-which Dick was taken by Brandon after receiving his injuries. The object of the defence wa6 to show by Reesby's evidence that Dick was not certain who waa hie assailant. Reesby stated that Dick did not accuse Whyte until he was driving Dick in to the doctor next day, when Dick said, "It must have been Whyte, as he was the only man on the road:" Accused was committed to the Supreme Court. Bail was allowed for.the sum of £100 on. accused's own recognisances, and another surety of £100. '
