KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Karori Borough Council met last evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. B. G. H. Burn) and Councillors R. T. Pell, A. Hamilton, L. P Davies, T. W. Lewer, J. W. Henderson, and W. C. Cooper.
The Lighting Committee reported that as the price of material at the present time was vea-y heavy it could not see its way clear to comply with a request for erection of a street light in Harmanstreet.
The Catholic Education Board was granted the use of Karori Park on Boxing Day, on certain conditions. In reference to a 'memorandum from the health authorities in relation to the fly pest, the Borough Engineer (Mr. G. W. Brigham) furnished a report.. -He stated that it would bo a good idea if a number of pamphlets were printed and distributed among the householders of Karori. Following is a rough outline of ths wording of the' pamphlet.—"The extermination of flies is earnestly urged on all residents of the borough, as the fly has proved to be the most dangerous insect known to man. The fly is a carrier of various diseases and is a disseminator of dangerous germs over articles of food and drink, the warm weather coining on flies will increase with great rapidity, and it will become necessary to attack their breeding places so as to prevent their increase as much ac possible." The report, which was adopted, went on to deal with the numerous preventive measures which will be brought into vogue for the extermination of flies.
Accounts amounting to £88 18s 3d were passed for payment. :
