FALKENHAYN SLOWS DOWN
RUMANIAN RESISTANCE IN TRANSYLVANIAN PASSES
SURPRISING BRAVERY AND TENACITY
(By Telegraph.—United Press Association.—Copyright;,} (Australian-New Zealand Cable Association.) (Received October 25, 10.15 a.m.)
NEW YORK, 24th October.
The strengthening of the Rumanian resistance is described by Kari yon TOeigand in a despatch to the New. York World, dated with. Yon Falkenhayn's army, between Bucor and Kimpolung, 18th October :
"Slowly and steadily," he writes, "the Rumanian attempts to check Yon Falkenhayn's three columns through the passes sonthward of Kronstaflt ais bec6ming stronger and more energetic. Not until they reached Bncar did the' Rumanians seem to catch breath. Demoralisation now appears to have given way to organised resistance and to desperate attempts to assault the advancing columns, which for bra-very, tenacity, and technical skill, are as surprising in the last few days as the former lack of these qualities. In consequence, Falkenhayn's columns have had to slow down. The Rumanians appear to lia-ve many more guns here than they had for -the -defence of Predeal, and are exhibiting much better accuracy.
