ACTIVE SERVICE
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —May I ask a little of. your space in order to gain enlightenment not only for myself, but may be for others as well, who are in the same fix. It is said (on what authority I know not) that when conscription comes into force those "who go on active service will have to wear a "C" on their collars. Now, Mr. Editor, what I would like to know is: What truth is there in this? If true, is it fair to those who as yet have not reached the military age, and who may not be given the chance to enlist voluntarily? There are indeed many who, though under age, have gone to the front, some have made the supreme sacrifice, but there are others (myself for one) whose parents refuse to let go until they are the proper age. Are we then to be made to wear the badge of the conscript?—l am, etc., NINETEEN. 25th September. [There, "is no truth in the report mentioned by cur correspondent. Men who are called up under the ballot will not have "to wear a 'C on their collars." Moreover, those who have not reached the military a!ge -will still have a chance to enlist voluntarily.]
