KARORI RIFLE CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Karori Defence Rifle Club was held at the Drill Hall, Buckle-street, last evening. President H. Marshall was in the chair.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the Chairman stated that the cj-ub was in a satisfactory condition. Fifty-two members had enlisted for service. The whole of the club's prize money for the past year had been given by the winners to the fund for wounded New Zealanders and their dependents. As a result, the sum of £24 16s 6d had been paid over. This was, of course, simply what should be done, but it was pleasing to see that the members were animated by this spirit. Since last annual meeting two more members had been killed in action— Sergt. C. C. Carr, of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, and Cpl. C. G. Downard, of the Wellington Regiment of Infantry. Both these gentlemen were valued members of the club, whose loss would be severely felt by members. It was satisfactory to hear that the Government proposed to equip a range of twenty targets at Miramar, whicii would be a great boon to Wellington men. Members would be interested to know that a third vice-president of the club had gone into camp. He referred to Capt. J. iteir, one of the strongest supporters^ of the club, who was very keen on the importance of rifle shooting. He took with him the best wishes of the club. The other vice-presidents at the front were Brigadier-General F. E. Johnston and Colonel G. T. Hall.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives, of Sergt. Carr and Cpl. Downard was carried in silence, those present standing.
