The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, 23rd Sept., 0.25 a.m. There is heavy artillery work on both sides on the Western front
In isolated actions we improved our position and pushed forward detachments in several directions.
23rd September, 2.50 p.m. .A British official report states that southwards of the Ancre we further advanced during the night. East of Courceletto wo captured a strongly fortified system of enemy trenches on a half-mile front.
West of Mouquet Farm au enemyviolent counter-attack was driven back with heavy losses.
(AUSTKAUAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, 21-th September. Sir Douglas Haig- reports:—We have continued to improve our position southward oi the Ancre,. pushing detachments into the. enemy's advanced trenches. During Friday's''bombardment ten of the enemy gun-pits were destroyed, and fourteen severely damaged. Five ammunition pits were exploded to-day. The artillery caused a big fire in a villargt largely used for the transport of supplies.
Fifty aeroplanes successfully raided an important railway junction and caused much damage, including the destruction of two ammunition trains. There were other successful raids on railway works and aerodromes.
