4_ HEAVY TRANSACTIONS IN STEEL.
COPPER PURCHASES FOR THE . ALLIES. (PUBLISHED IN THE TIMES.) (Received September 25, 9 a.m.'y NEW YORK, 24th September. Tho largest dealings in. Walt-street since 1908 took place during the two hours' session on Saturday, when 994,000 shares in United States steel were turned over. The day's gain in value was over three million sterling. Prices for leather and copper greatly increased, the former owing to report that Russia wants millions of shoes. The greatest sale in copper ever made to the Allies, was through Morgans, who ordered 448,000,000 pounds, worth 125,000,000 dollars. The price was 27 cents, delivered in monthly instalments, beginning in January.,
