TRAMWAYS BAND CONCERT.

The Wellington Tramways Band gave a highly successful concert in His Majesty's last evening, there being a very large attendance. The musicians, numbering over fifty, were in excellent form, and their combined and individual efforts resulted in tuneful readings of popular selections. The ooening number, " Coronation " Grand March, was rendered with dash and in fine harmony. A contrasting piece was the item "Marinarella," in which Conductor Bowes secured some good li"ht and shade effects. A _ feature of the band's performances ia the absence of "brassy" sound so often heard ; an even soft tone is maintained throughout, careful emphasis >f the,"theme being particularly noticeable. A* rural suite, " Woodland Pictures," allowed full scope for every member of the company, an opportunity fully availed of, for the selection was beautifully rendered. The ever-popular " Stars and Stripes " was the concluding number, and in this the instrumentalists excelled themselves. The playing was most inspiriting. Amom? the individual contributors were Misses Nellie Simpson and T. Barry. The former was heard in flute solos and the latter ir vocal items. Both were very successful in their different branches of talent. Mr. Herbert Wood, the popular tenor, also sang, while Mr. John Cave, of the Wilkie Shakespearean Company, recited. Mr. Wood was in fine voice, and Mr. Cave fully demonstrated his dramatic elocutionary powers in " Christmas Day in the Workhouse" and " The Day." Mr. Geo. Holloway accompanied at tho piano, and Mr. G. W. Bowes wielded the ba/ton in his customary able manner. The concert was much enjoyed by all present.
