SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. "\

The distribution of prizes and certificates to the successful scholars in the examinations conducted recently under the auspices of the Wellington Sunday School Union . took place at St. John's Schoolroom last evening, when there was a large attendance of children and parents and friends. The . list of successfill pupils was published. in the Evening Post a few days ago

Mr. Alexander Johnston (president of the union) was in the chair. . In addressing 'those present Mr. Johnston said that the union had during the -past year secured the help of several experienced State school teachers, and their addresses to pupils and Sunday school teachers had been most valuable He was sorry some of the Sunday school teachers had not taken a keener interest in the study classes for teachers. About 1000 boys and girls were under the union. Palmerston North was a large branch, and held its own examinations. Only one boy (Peter Wilson) had succeeded in obtaining 100 per cent, of marks. The Mayoress (Mrs. J. P> Luke) said she was very pleased to be present to sec so many happy children. She felt that, though sects were somewhat marked in Wellington, the Wellington Sunday School Union at least was one institution where there was unity. 'She was very pleased to have the opportunity of speaking to the children, and she hoped that some day they would all win the reward of good living. Mrs. Luke then proceeded to present the prizes, Mrs. A. S. Atkinson presenting the certificates. The evening was interspersed with hymns. Recitations were given by Misses Ethel Sullivan and Daphne Dryden. A musical monologue was given by Miss Iris Trim.

Proceedings closed with the Doxology.
