AT FOUREAUX WOOD AND MAUREPAS
FRENCH DRIVEN OUT WITH
HEAVY LOSSES.

LONDON, 17th August. A German, communique states : After strong English attacks at Ovillers and Poziercs, and to the west of the Foureaux Wood were repulsed, the French who attacked between Guillemont and the Sommo were also repulsed. Portions of the enemies' forces penetrated our lines west of Foureaux Wood and south of Maurepas, but were driven out with heavy losses. The French obtained a foothold in our first lino for five hundred yards at Belloy-en-Santerre.
An enemy attack afc the Chapitre Wood was suppressed.
