THE CURTAILMENT OF RACING

SYDNEY, This Day.
At a. meeting of the Sydney Jockey Club, the Chairman said the club 'took the attitude that the curtailment of racing in war time was a, question primarily for the Government, not for the club. If the Government took the matter in hand and treated everybody alike, there would he no objection on the part of registered clubs; but the club was not inclined to curtail the racing of registered clnbs^ unless the pruningknife was applied'"all round and unre.--gistcred clubs also curtailed their racing. He stated thtvb the Jockey Club's takings in admission money was £3000 more than in the previous year, in spite of the war, whereas it had anticipated a reduction of 20 per cent. Besides £4500 in hand, it proposed to give £10,000 to the Patriotic Funds during the coming year.
