SATISFACTORY POSITION REPORTED

NEW HOSPITAL SANCTIONED.

Latest reports from Trentham Camp indicato that the position is quite satisfactory, and that' there is. no reason for the slighest alarm. After visiting the camp, General Henedrson issued the following bulletin, last night: One case of diphtheria, one casa of pneumonia, both doing well. Two cases of cerebro-spinal meningitis, both doing well. One case of cerebro-spinal meningitis admitted to hospital last night is as yet in a very early state. There are three cases of cerebro-spinal meningitis in all. All ol these patients belong to the 19th Reinforcements, with the exception of the pneumonia patient, who is a member of the 18th Reinforcements.

Reports from Featherston, stated General Henderson, show that the health of the troops there is satisfactory. The 19th Reinforcements at the Tauherenikau Camp are reported to be in excellent health.

A report issued at noon to-day by the Principal Medicil Officer at Trentham (Col. Andrews) .shows no change in the position. The report is as follows: —One more suspicious case cerebrospinal meningitis. The other cases progressing favourably. Diphtheria case much improved. No fresh cases. Pneumonia case much the same.

General Henderson states that the Minister for Defence (Hon. Jas. Allen) has sanctioned the erection of a forty-eight-bed infectious diseases hospital. Plans have been submitted and approved, and the erection of one ward, on land newly acquired by the Government, is to be undertaken immediately. A sum of £2250 has been authorised for the construction of the building, which will be added to as occasion arises. The first ward is expected to be ready for occupation by October. Since the 19th Reinforcements left Trent-ham every hut has been scrubbed out and thoroughly disinfected. All flirt that may have collected underneath the huts has been removed and the ground disinfected.
