CONCERNING A ROAD
Dsrspite all negotiations that have passed'between the Lower Hutt Boiough Council and the Gracefiekl Syndicate, the Gracefield-road, which runs through the company's land at Lower Hutt, still remains undedicated Last evening the town clerk of Lower Hutt read a letter from the City Council, in which it was proposed that a conference of representatives of tho City and Hutt Councils should be held to consider the matter of dedication. The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) said that he had informed the Mayor of the city that tho suburban council intended to insist that the necessary drainage work should be carried out by the syndicate, and he rend an opinion from the borough solicitor (Mr E. P. Bunny), who held that the council was quite within its rights in doing so. He had informed Mr. Jjujke that his council could not agree to confer on this point, as it held fast, to its original decision, and insisted that the conditions should be complied with. Councillors generally supported the Mayor in his contention that tue council should refuse to accept the road until the necessary work was agreed upon. It was resolved to reply in tliQ terms of the Mayor's remarks.
