"Passed in" was the fate of two Corporation, leases which Mr. S. George Nathan submitted for sale by public auction in the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon. . There was a small attendance. The first lot offered was section 155, having a frontage of 40 feet to Customhouse-quay with a depth of 60 feet lOin, on which is erected a brick warehouse and offices lately vacated by Messrs. Aitken, Wilson and Company. The lease had 11_ years to run at a rental of £90. The building was valued at £6500 by Mr. J. G. Wilson, and at £4300 by the Corporation valuer two years ago. Bidding commenced at £3500 and went to £3750. Sections 155 and 156—the latter a coiner section with a wooden building thereon recently occupied by Messrs. J. J. Curtis and Company—were then put up together. The total ground rent is £258 15s and the lease has 11 years to run. Rates total £160 7s Bd-and insurance £30 lis 2d. The first bidwas at £4000, and advanced in three bids to £4750, at which the property was withdrawn. .
Messrs. E. Johnston and Co. will hold a sale of the balance of the stock of oak furniture, carpets, etc., at Doherty's furniture warehouse to-morrow, at 1 o'clock. On Monday at 1.30, at No. 4, Springfieldterrace, Kelburn, they will sell oak furniture, carpets, etc., on account of Mr. Cardno. On Tuesday, at their rooms, they will sell a. saddler's stock-in-trade.
Tiio Hataitai Bowling Club has completer! arrangements for holding, a "Rod Cross" Day this week. Stalls have been erected at the bowling pavilion, and a committee of ladies is actively canvassing the district.
