In a lecture on flies delivered before the Philosophical Society last night Professor Kirk pleaded for more systematic attention to the manure heaps gathered in Wellington. They were, lie said, the principal breeding grounds for flies, and if they were simply removed from the heart of the city, and deposited just outside, that did not get over the difficulty. It had been proved that flies could travel at least two miles in a. day He thought that the manure should be treated for agricultural purposes, which would mean the conservation of all that was wasted now Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd., announce !' that they have landed a new shipment of Patau's "Alloa" wools.
