COLDER WEATHER

The barometer has risen steadily everywhere, with strong southerly winds predominating. Considerable snow has fallen on the high levels in the South Island, and generally the weather has been cold and showery, such as has been experienced in Wellington. Gales were reported this morning on the east coast of the North Island. The forecast is for unsettled weather with a very cold night and hard "frosts in the South. Heavy seas are promised for the \Yest Coast, in Foveaux Strait, and between Castlepoint and Kaikoura.
