14th INF ANTRY'S RECORD,
SHOWS A FALLING OFF.
The 14th Infantry, in firing theirtrained soldiers' course at Ta-entham, did not succeed in attaining the level established by the preceding four Reinforcements. The average figure of merit they put up was 98.5, compared with 105.1 registered by the 13tJis and 107.2 by the. 12ths. "Of the _14ths, D Company did', the best, recording 108.4, while B and' C Companies also shot well, scoring averages of 100.5 and 100.7 respectively. The weather having been particularly good while the 14ths fired their course, no reason can be assigned as to why they as a draft should be below the average in marksmanship. The Chief of the General Staff intimated yesterday that before they reached the firing line they would be required $ undergo another course of musketry, probably with another rifle. ' The actual figures of merit won by. the 14th. Infantry in firing their trained' soldiers' co'urso at Trentha-m are shown as follow:—
