MOURNED BY THE MAORIS
The Minister for Defence (Hon. James Allen) has received the following message from Matin Kapa, Eaikohe : —
"We are mourning together with you the loss of Lord Kitchener and thoso who have gone to rest with him."
The Defence Minister replied with this message :— "I have received your telegram and have sent it to His Excellency the Governor that he may read how greatly you and your people mourn with all the King's subjects the loss of Lord Kitchener and those who have so sadly perished with him. Sad, indeed, are all our hearts at the untimely fate of this great rangatira of our Empire, but even though he has gone from us we must and will fight on and finish the great work we all regret he has not lived to complete." Matiu Kapa sent the following response :— "Yes, we will continue to assist until the final result has been achieved."
