AMALGAMATION

HAMILTON AND FRANKTON,

(BIT TELEGRAPH.—PRZSS ASSOCIATION.) HAMILTON, 11th May. Frankton ratepayers at a poll today decided to " amalgamate with Hamilton. . <

There is. keen excitement throughout Hamilton and Frankton over the amalgamation poll (reported the local' correspondent of the Auckland Star on Wednesday). Enthusiasm is at its height on both sides, and the fight promises to be very keen. Last night the anti-amalgamationists held a public meeting in the Frankton Town Hall, when a large audience got completely out of hand, and the meeting developed into a regular Donnybrook. Interruptions were continuous throughout, speakers on both sides being repeatedly heckled, while discussions arose amongst partisans in the body of the hall, and chaos reigned. The "night was one of revelry, and, while there were numerous highly-amusing incidents, remarks of a personal nature were fairly frequent, and the proceedings at times bordered on the disgraceful. The Mayor, who presided, was powerless to control the crowd, and the meeting eventually broke tip after carrying a resolution of thanks to the anti-amalgamationists for providing so excellent a night's entertainment.
