i THE HIDE MARKET.
The price of hides on the local market has lately shown a drop of from Id to ljd per pound, owing, it is stated, to a report current in interested circles that tho Australian Government is about to fix a maximum price for hides. A Wellington firm of meat importers reports to-day that it has received a cablegram, from, its Melbourne representatives gtafc-. ing that the Australian Government has decided not to act at present.
