NAIRN-ST. TRAGEDY
ACCUSED BEFORE SUPREME
COURT
WOMAN'S CONDITION VERY
GRAVE,
The recent tragedy at the Nairn-street Reserve was again brought iinder notice this afternoon, when Ernest Charles Jewell Devoin appeared at tiie Supreme Court before tho ' Chief Justice (Sir 'Robert Stout) charged with attempted suicide and the attempted murder of Louisa White.
When the case was called .on, Mr. V. R. Meredith, representing the Crown, said that since the proceedings in the Lower Court a serious change for the worse in the condition of the injured girl had taken place, and medical opinion was to the effect that she had only about a fortnight to Jive. In that case, it was possible that tho accused would be arraigned' on the grave charge of murder, and, under the circumstances, he asked for an, adjournment of' 'the hearing until next sessions of the Supreme Court. Mr. Wilford, in reply to his Honour, said he agreed that the course proposed by Mr. Meredith was the only one possible under the circumstances.
His Honour adjourned the case ac^ cordingly. , .
