PERSONAL PLATTERS
The Rev. Father Barra, of St. Joseph's Church, Buckle-street, has been transferred to Keefton. His place will be taken by the Rev. Father O'Connor, of Wellington South. Mr. W. Gardner, Town Clerk, Petone, is expected to return from Sydney to-day, where he has been spending a holiday. Mr. W. Sturman lias been ActingTown Clerk during his absence. The sudden death of Mrs. Richard Coker, whose husband was the first stationmaster at Palmerston North, occurred .on Friday. .The deceased lady was 62 years of age, and had been in Palmerston for thirty-five, years. Mr. George Lamb, who has occupied the position of shipping clerk in Dunedin to Messrs. Butterworth Bros, for the last fourteen years, has been appointed secretary of the South Island Dairy Association, vice ? . J. B. Scott, who has had to resign the position owing to severe illness. Mr. T. B. Strong, M.A., B.Se., who , has been appointed Senior, Inspector of the Wanganui Education Board's district, began his educational life at Waimate, South Canterbury, and served his apprenticeship as a pupil-teacher at the District High School there. He' proceeded to the Otago University, where he was successful in obtaining the degrees of M.A. and B.Sc. He went toWanganui from the Gisborne District High School, and was for some' time specia' "".ssistant at the Wanganui District High School. It was while serving ,in that capacity that he received the appointment of assistant to-Mr. W. Gray, Chief Inspector of Schools for Wanganui. Mr. George Fife Bishop, solicitor, who was run over and killed by a goods train at the Wellington-road crossing at Marton on Saturday night, was a resident/ of Wellington for many years. He was bom here in 1853, and after being educated at the Otago Boys' High School and the Wellington College, was articled to Messrs. Travers 'and Ollivier, barristers and solicitors, Wellington. He was admitted to the Bar in 1876, and after "practising here and at Palmerston North and Feilding he settled in Marton. Deceased was the second son of the late Mr. William Bishop, chemist, who came to Now Zealand in the ship London in 1841, and,for some years-before he left for the country the late Mr. George Bishop was one of, j,he Star Boating Club's first-class, oarsmen, and he was also a member of the Wellington Football Club and a prominent athlete.
