STORM THREATENING

A westerly disturbance passed in the South yesterday, the winds changing from north-west to southerly, and rain commencing locally shortly before 7 p.m. The storm predicted from the north-west on Saturday is more strongly indicated today, and, in consequence, the meteorologist has issued warnings for winds rising to a south-easterly gale northward of East Cape and Kawhia. Freshening easterly winds are promised on the HokitikaKaikoura line, and nortberlies and westerlies elsewhere. Warnings for westerly gales are aleo exhibited aboat Foveaux Strait. The weather is likely to be squally, with rain following, northward of Kawhia and Napier, squally and changeable generally elsewhere.
