SOME DEATH-SENTENCES COMMUTED. (Received May B,' 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, 7th May. Tries court-martial at Dnblin sentenced Countess Tvlarkievicz to death, bnt the sentence was commuted to penal servii iudc- for life. ' I The ■, sentence of death on ' Count George Phmkett has been commuted to ten years' imprisonment. Of.her death sentences commuted includt Henry Shanahan, to imprisonment for life ; John Plunkett. ten years ; Philip Cosgrave, five years. The sentences on thirteen others were commuted to three years' imprisonment. LONDON, sth May. Joseph Plunkett, who was shot, was a brilliant University graduate, and son of Count George Plunkett.. Official.—A few hours before his execution, Joseph Plnnkett was married in prison to Grace Gifford. sister of the widow of the rebel MacDonagh, who was among the first of the rebels executed. LONDON, 6th Stay. Official.—Thirty-sis rebels were courtujartialled on Thursday. John M'Bride, ( William Cosgrave, and Thomas Hunter were sentenced to death. M'Bride was executed on Friday, the others had their sentences commuted to penal servitude for life. (Received May 8, 9 a-.m.) LONDON, 7th May. M'Bride was known as Major M'Bride. He organised the Irish corps which fought against the British in the Boer war. He has since . been inspector of waterworks at Dnblin. He used his influence to nullify, the recruiting campaign. His wife, who lias Fenian sympathies, obtained a separation in Franco in 1905, describing her husband as an incorrigible drunkard and rake. M'Bride habitually referred to his son as the future President of Independent Irelandx [Count George Noble Plunkebt is a hereditary Count of Rome, and is Director of the National Museum of Science and Art, Dublin. He is a distinguished literary man, and is attached to many learned societies at Home and abroad.]
