LOST PAPERS
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —I notice in last night's edition of your paper a letter signed T. C. M'lntyre, complaining of the slackness of the Defence Group Office with regard to the issue of badges. The paper-losing trouble mentioned in that letter is, apparently, rife at Buckle-street just now. On Saturday last I went to the office to obtain a badge and after an hour's waiting I was told that my papers had been mislaid. On AVednesday I again went up, and after wasting 'another two hours, I managed to get the required badge only by making out a fresh set of papers. The officials at the recruiting office stated that they were understaffed, but it would only require a crude filing system to keep the papers in order, and filing in its .worst form is only a matter of minutes. Something ought to be done to stop this humbugging about, or no recruit will trouble about obtaining a badge; consequently badges will be useless for iden: tifying the shirkers, and that, I understand, is their purpose.—l am, etc., M. DIXON. 6th May, 1916.
