AMOKURA RETURNS
Late last night the Government training steamer Amokura (Commander Hooper, R.N.R.) returned to Wellington from her periodical cruise round the outlying islands in search of castaways. The vessel will lay up in Wellington for the winter
RIMU'S SHAFT BREAKS
The Northern'Company's twin-screw steamer Rimu arrived at Onehunga on Thursday morning from Kawhia and Raglan with a broken tail shaft. The accident occurred at Kawhia, but the propeller was fortunately saved. Tlie Rimu was placed on the beach on Thursday night in readiness for a new shaft to be fitted at low tide yesterdaj morning.. It was expected that she would be able to take up her running as usual yesterday afternoon
DONGARRA LEAVES AUCKLAND
Late yesterday afternoon the steamer Dongarra left-Auckland for Wellington in continuation of ber voyage from New York. She is due here early on Monday morning
ALTERATIONS TO THE PUTIKI
The coastal steamer Putiki is leaving Wellington today for Auckland, where she will undergo extensive alterations. The cabin aft is to be moved further forward to give more cargo space in the after hold. The bridge will also be moved forward, and other alterations made
THE TAKAPUNA'S RUNNING
Further details concerning the running to-be taKekn up by the Takapuna to the West Coast wete announced by the Union Company to-day. After going on the Patent Slip to have her hull cleaned, the Takapuna will sail on Wednesday for Westport and Greymouth direct. On the __tnm trip she will make a call at Nelson, ooming direct from there to Wellington

On her initial trip in the interests of the Patea Farmers' Co-operative Freezing Company the Waverley left Wellington yesterday evening for Patea, under Captain Fisk. She is duo back here to-morrow
The repairs to the steamer Opouri at Lyttelton are proceeding satisfactorily, and are expected to be completed about Thursday next. The vessel subsequently proceeds to Greymouth, where she loads timber for Lyttelton
