CAPTURE OF TREBIZOND
INCREDIBLE DIFFICULTIES OVERCOME.
DARING LANDING WITH AID OF THE FLEET. PETROGRAD, 18th April. A communique' states ; The efforts of our Caucasian army and our Black Sea fleet have beei; crowned by the capture of Trebizond, the most important fortified position on the Anatolian coast. After a sanguinary battle on 14th April our troops pressed tile Turks without a1 respite, overcoming incredible difficulties, and everywhere shattering the most obstinate resistance The co-opera-tion of the fleet permitted us to effect •i most daring landing in support of the troops. The heroic exploits of the Caucasian army, operating inland, facilitated the success of the troops on the coast.
