A. well-known figm-e in the Magistrate's Court is Charles Edmonston Leask, who apparently has no means whatever of suppoiting himself. When he was charged at the Court to-day with being an incorrigible rogue, he wandered off, as on previous occasions, about the Chief Justice, a certain tontine policy, and considerable money due from Home. Inspector Hendrey informed the Court 'that Leask's story was purely a delusion. Ho had been in the Ohiro Home for several years, but had shown so little respect for the regulations that the officials were unwilling to take him back. The inspector considered the best course would.be to remand the accused for medical examination. Witli this the Magistrate (Mr. W. G. .Riddell) agreed, and Leask was accordingly remanded for a week. Ernest Devoin appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day, charged "with attempting to murder Louisa White by shooting her in Nairn-street Reserve on 27th March. A further remand for a week was granted. Enquiry at the Hospital to-day elicited the information that the woman White's condition shows a Blight imwovement
