LINE OVER THE HILL
Mr. C. E. Darnell, chairman of the Harbour Board, at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon yesterday, made a strong plea for greater interest on the part of city business men in the Wairarapa., "'I know." he said, "that some people thought that when a country member was appointed chaiiTnan of the Harbour Board that the bottom would fall out of the port, but it had not." He regretted that no mention had been made by the chamber of the great work so urgently needed of bringing the rich Wairarapa district into closer touch with the city by rail,, particularly mentioning the Rimutaka deviation. The chamber was not thinking about it. He commended the Wairarapa claims for better railway communication with Wellington to the most serious consideration of Wellington's business men. Subsequently the chairman (Mr. Jas. Macintosh) said the Rimutaka line' was not lost sight of by: the Wellington Chamber, and it, would be found when the time .was opportune that that matter would certainly be again taken up by the chamber.
