PULLING TOGETHER
NATIONAL MINISTRY TO-DAY. Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister for Cus. loin's, speaking on behalf of the National. Ministry at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, said the members of the Ministry were all pulling together. Party politics were in the background, and there they should stay until the war was over. Unthinking people took the Defence Department to task, and quite unfairly, for the Minister of. Defence and all associated with him were doing their utmost to discharge the great responsibilities placed upon them. With regard to post-war trade, he strongly urged the keeping of all trade possible within the Empire. The New Zealand exports to the United Kingdom in 1912 were worth 203 millions, but last year they were worth 29 millions. Everything was being done to prevent enemy goads reaching this Dominion. He asked all businos men to help the Government in bringing to its notice suspicious cases. However, a large'amount of this kind of work was being done, which could not be made public. The Ministry recognised in its Chief a man who was doing everything possible to solve the many important problems that came under the notice of a Prime Minister. He was working night and day and every day. When Parliament next met he hoped that the Government would have criticism, but he also hoped it would be constructive criticism, and direoted to what they all so much desired—the satisfactory ending of the roar. . ■ ' 1
