CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The Wellington Chamber of Commerce annual meeting was held at the Chamber yesterday. Mr. J. A. Macintosh, chairman, presided, and the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey) and the Minister for Customs (Hon. A. M. Alyers) were present. The business was preceded by a luncheon. The Chairman referred to the importance of the last meeting, when the National Ministry was formed and the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey and the Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Ward were present as colleagues. He welcomed the "Ministers with them that day, also the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), the Chairman of the Harbour Board (Mr. C. E. Daniell), and the Chairman of the Central Chamber of Commerce (Mr. C. M. Luke), The meeting that day was the-57th anniversary of the first meeting. He referred to the results of the Paris Conference, which they all awaited with such interest. Mr. J. H. B. Coates was, he was pleased to say, to 'represent the Chamber at the British Imperial Council of Commerce.. The most important work achieved during the year was the establishment of the Association of Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand, whose work hs felt certain would be of the utmost benefit to the trade and commerce of the Dominion. He moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. Mi. R. W. Waterhouse seconded the motion. The Chairman paid a compliment to the secretary (Mr. H.D. Vickery) for his work done. during the year.! The report and baJance-sheet were adopted. Messrs. T. Ballinger, W. G. Bennett, W. J. Bridson, W. F. Cuthbertson, I. C. Dawson, W. Q. Duthie, D. A. Ewen, J. G. Harkness, Jos. Macintosh, F. W. Manton, C. E. Richardson, and R. W. Waterhouse were elected to the council for the ensuing year.
