BRIGHTER WEATHER

After three or four days of rain and wind Wellington is now experiencing a most pleasant change. Cold and boisterous weather has been experienced generally, and heavy rain has fallen in many parts of the country, but, except in the Northern and East Coast portions of the North Island conditions have moderated this morning. The barometer has risen considerably everywhere, and the centre of low pressure has passed a little north of Cook Strait. The winds are now decreasing in force, but warnings' for southerly gales are still exhibited northward of East Cape. The forecast is for decreasing southerly and south-easterly winds locally with cool and changeable weather. A very cold night is probable with frosts inland, especially in the South Island.
