America's efforts to capture South American trade were mentioned by Mr. Maurice O'Brien during the course of an interview with a Post representative. Mr. O'Brien stated that the Americans were paying special attention to the Latin States and commissioners were being sent to Brazil, Argentine, Ecuador —in fact the whole of South America. This was being done with the view to strengthening the financial relations of the United States with those countries and to secure as large a share as possible of the trade that was previously held by Germany and the Continental nations. While little was heard concerning Great Britain's trade with South America there was no doubt that British traders were quietly strengthening their trade connections, so that, whatever the outcome of f-hs war, they would be firmly established in South American countriu, ■ -.
