BRITISH STEAMER'S ESCAPE
CLEVERLY SAVED FROM SUB MARINE.
The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, 17th April, 5.40 p.m. The British merchant steamer Duendes was attacked on 25th March by gunfire without warning by a German, submarine. The master, Captain Alban Chittenden, by judgment, pluck, and skill, succeeded in saving the ship from destruction, although hit nine times.
