ALLIES
THE TRANSPORT OF THE SERVIAN ARMY
LONDON, 17th April. Communicating with the Daily Chronicle, Mr. Martin Donohoe, from Athens, reports that excitement runs high on the conditions of the transport of Servians. Originally it was proposed that they should be shipped from Corfu in three days, and later disembark at Salonika, but the voyage was Full cE peril to troopships. The Allies then determined on the sea journey A' twelve hours to Patras, thence to Peloponnesia by railway via Athens. The Greek Government offered strong opposition, whereupon the Allies informed M. Skouloudis that official sanction was immaterial, and that the Allies would not permit the Greeks to interfere with the plan of operations. Learning the details of the scheme, the Ministers of Austria and Germany emphatically intervened, and told Greece that they would regard it as an unfriendly act if she remained passive and permitted the Servians to reach the firing line. The Allies then indicated that they also would have recourse to strong measures if the Greeks thwarted their designs. M. Skouloudis is now seeking a peaceable escape from a dilemma.. OPPOSITION COLLAPSES. (Received April 18, 8 a.m.) SALONIKA, 17th April. Greece has decided not to oppose the transportation of Servian troops, but has formally protested. ALLIED NAVAL BASE IN CRETE. ATHENS, 17th April. Allied battleships have arrived at Suda Ba,y (on the north coast of the island of Crete), apparently with the object of creating a naval base similar to that at Argostoli.
